We had a beautiful drive south past the City and Provo on the east shore of the Great Salt Lake. The highest Wasatch Mountain peaks had a little snow. Much less than we saw two years ago. Here comes Super El Nino

After Provo we cut the corner via lovely US Route 6. It quickly turned into a 2- and 3-lane climb up a canyon to a pass. It was a very scenic drive. On the other side of the pass, the road wound through a narrow passage between two tall, sheer rock walls, before opening up to a broad, flat plain. The road was straight with undulating hills as far as we could see.

On I-70, we remarked how much the mesas and cliff walls looked like Utah. We later discovered that the Colorado Plauteau covers the four corners area and beyond – as far southwest as Bryce Canyon. We are camping in a state park in Fruita, Co, just west of Grand Junction. We visited the Colorado National Monument, which is one of many national parks and monuments in the region.

After a 26-mile drive through the Monument, we stopped in Grand Junction for a tasty lunch at a Brew Pub. Charlie got in her second swim of the day while Hank inflated our kayak. All three of us enjoyed a leisurely float on the lake on sunny day with intermittent, small clouds. Some of the clouds have a little moisture in them. You can see rain descending from them in the distance. A couple of times we’ve had one of the clouds drop a dozen rain drops on us before moving on.
