Pancake Bay, ON

After crossing the border back into Ontario, Canada, our first stop was at Pancake Bay, a large (more than 360 campsites) Provincial park on the shores of Lake Superior. Our campsite was on a heavily forested hilltop. But within a quarter-mile we had access to the dog-friendly section of the beach. Once again we enjoyed soft white sand. This time the beach was even more protected from wind and waves. Land extended 330 degrees around the bay which had a two-mile-long beach. The water was calm, clear and about 60 degrees in temperature. Charlie swam off and on for a couple hours after our arrival the first day. The second day, she swam from 11 am to 4 pm. People were amazed how far out she was able to swim for each fetch. It was one of the best days of her life – swimming for five hours, with plenty of time to rest between fetches. It was a great endurance workout for her. We set up our canopy on the beach and enjoyed a sunny, relaxing day.
